Monarch
 - from the Textures, Shadows & Light Series

The wing piercings, pattern, colors, and textures add beauty to the wings of this beautifully patterned buckeye burl piece.  Notice the pierced areas follow the flow of the piece. They accentuate and differentiate the shadows and light, and are sculpted in a mobius curve that is unending.

The buckeye burl is not driftwood, but root balls harvested from the Eastern Slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and shipped back to Waldo, Florida. I was told the story of this "harvesting", but it was so "gang that couldn't shoot straight" wild, I'm hesitant to repeat the story.
